What do you enjoy about working with the SI program and/or having a class with an SI Leader?
It is a major help for my large classes. Students can ask questions about material from class to another person for a different perspective. I have heard from multiple people that SI is a positive experience for them, and I appreciate the help for students that experience issues learning material.
What would you say to students who are trying to figure out whether or not to go to SI Sessions?
Go! It is a very helpful resource for students to get extra help. As a student, you have the opportunity to ask additional questions in a smaller setting than a large lecture. Some students may not want to ask questions in front of 150 people, but in a smaller setting, people tend to be more active in questioning. Also, everyone in an SI session wants to ask questions.
What would you say to a faculty member or department who is interested in having SI?
It is a big help for large classes. Students get to ask questions to each other and the SI leader. This frees up office time for more students. In my classes, I may have 10-15 students that want more help, and the first thing I suggest is SI if that is available. Then I can spend time with just a few in my office at a time.
